When purchasing magnesium alloy materials or machining a batch of magnesium alloy products, if you need to store them, it is recommended to do a good job of anti-rust treatment on the materials and products to prevent oxidation and affect later use.
In order to prevent the magnesium material from being polluted or corroded during transportation and storage, the products that have been surface-treated and passed the inspection should be oiled and packaged within 48 hours. Before using magnesium alloy materials, the protective layer of anti-rust oil must be removed, so the anti-rust oil is required to have excellent anti-rust properties, easy to unpack and remove oil. Therefore, a thin anti-rust oil layer is generally used. Various corrosion-inhibiting substances such as oxidized wax paste, water-soluble sulfonates, fatty acids, esters, soaps, etc. are added to mineral oil, which are commonly used as anti-rust oils for magnesium alloys. The corrosion-inhibiting substance forms a hydrophobic corrosion-inhibiting polymer film on the contact surface of oil and metal, which plays a protective role.
Magnesium alloys are susceptible to corrosion under natural conditions. In addition to the method of applying rust oil, the following points should be paid attention to during use, storage and storage:
1. Magnesium alloys should not be exposed to humid air for a long time, and rain and fog are strictly prohibited;
2. When storing magnesium alloys, it is strictly forbidden to directly contact with acids, alkalis and salts;
3. The humidity of the warehouse storing magnesium materials should not exceed 75%, and the temperature should not change sharply;
4. During transportation, the surface of magnesium alloy must be sealed and covered to prevent moisture. If mild corrosion is found, it must be immediately unsealed, degreasing, cleaned of corrosion products and dried, and then oil-sealed again;
5. When the magnesium alloy is stored for a long time, it must be checked regularly and the necessary anti-corrosion treatment must be carried out.
